Powertrain Options

As the next entry in the Toyota brand’s expansive hybridization of its lineup, this year also marks the first time the 4Runner will be available with a hybrid powertrain. Regardless of which model you opt for, a 2.4L turbocharged four-cylinder engine will be beneath the hood. For gas only, it’ll be an i-FORCE engine capable of generating 278 horsepower alongside 317 pound-feet of torque. As for the hybrid, it’ll be an i-FORCE Max engine alongside an electric motor and 1.87-kWh NiMH battery pack, which altogether provide 326 hp and 465 lb-ft. of torque.

The sixth-generation 4Runner will initially be available in nine different trim levels, kicking off with the base SR5 trim and moving up to TRD Sport, TRD Sport Premium, TRD Off Road, TRD Off Road Premium, Limited, Platinum, TRD Pro and Trailhunter. Most of these should sound familiar, but you probably don’t recognize Trailhunter since it’s brand new this year.
