For the Jeep brand, the Grand Cherokee nameplate has a rich history dating back three decades. It joined the lineup for the 1993 model year and has been a steady member of the lineup for the 30 years since. Now in its fifth generation, which just kicked off in the 2021 model year, there are three different members of the Grand Cherokee family. With some of the newest releases of these models already being available right here in Fort Scott, Kansas, we thought we’d give you a brief rundown on the three members of the 2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee family.
The originator of the nameplate, the Grand Cherokee is a two-row traditional SUV. That means it’s not a crossover like a majority of the utility vehicles on the market today, but rather adheres to the classic attributes of an SUV. This year the Limited trim level received a new set of standard 18” polished and painted aluminum wheels. Available in four trim levels, the standard model delivers 293 horsepower.
The last few years have seen a marked increase in the popularity of three-row utility vehicles, and the traditional SUV is a great platform for such a vehicle. It just made sense for the Jeep Grand Cherokee to offer a three-row variant, thus the Grand Cherokee L was born. It, too, offers the new wheels and is available in four trims. However, it offers the same standard engine or an available V8 upgrade with 357 hp.
It’s no secret that the automotive marketplace is taking a huge shift towards electrification. The Jeep brand itself has been making a ton of strides towards that future with its collection of 4xe variants, the Grand Cherokee being no different. The new wheels are standard on the Trailhawk trim level here, and a new Anniversary Edition is now available in addition to its four trims. Its plug-in hybrid powertrain offers 375 hp.
