When it comes to the pickup truck market, the RAM 1500 has held its spot as one of the “big three” for generations. That certainly translates to the heavy duty segments, as there are far fewer options and the big three have an even tighter grip there. If you’re in the market for a heavy-duty pickup, then either the 2023 RAM 2500 or RAM 3500 could certainly make great options for you. We carry plenty of RAM models here at Briggs Fort Scott, so be sure to check out our online inventory available here in Fort Scott, Kansas, to see if we have a model to suit your needs.
Both RAM Heavy Duty models are receiving a bunch of great updates for the 2023 model year, starting with an available 12” frameless digital information cluster that offers roughly 20 different menus you can customize and reconfigure to preferences. A digital rearview mirror has been added to the lineup and even provides side camera integration. Trailer Reverse Steering Control is a new feature now available in both models. A new Mopar sport performance hood is available on some trims, while next-gen trailer tow mirrors that offer telescoping capabilities are available across the board. Finally, the camera system has been enhanced as well.
The RAM Heavy Duty models are the most capable pickup trucks in their segment. The RAM 3500 offers up to 37,090 pounds of trailering capacity, which is the best in class, while the RAM 2500 can tow up to 20,000 pounds. The RAM 3500 can haul up to 7,680 pounds in its bed while the RAM 2500 can haul up to 4,010 lbs. Power will largely depend on which powertrain is underneath your model’s hood. The best options there are include the 6.7L Cummins, which offers up to 1,075 pound-feet of torque and the 6.4L HEMI V8 which generates up to 410 horsepower, the best-in-class for a standard gas-powered engine.
We already mentioned the two available engine options, a 6.4L HEMI V8 or a 6.7L Cummins Turbo Diesel, but the latter can be enhanced from Standard-Output to High-Output which gets you up to that high torque number. You’ll be able to choose between 4x2 or 4x4 models and then from additional configurations that include a Regular Cab with an 8’ bed, a Crew Cab with a 6’4” bed, a Crew Cab with an 8’ bed and a Mega Cab with a 6’4” bed, which is only available in the 4x4. Available trim levels include Tradesman, Big Horn, Lone Star, Power Wagon, Laramie, Limited Longhorn and Limited. You can also choose from a dozen exterior color options.
