Outside of the recently introduced HUMMER EV models, the GMC lineup hasn’t seen a new nameplate in quite a few years. The most recent before those was the GMC Terrain, which was introduced for the 2010 model year. In the decade-plus since then, the midsize crossover shifted to the compact segment and has carved out its place within the market. Now that it offers Denali and AT4 trim levels, there are plenty of options for car buyers to choose from when shopping for a 2023 GMC Terrain right here in Fort Scott, Kansas.
Just last year the second-generation Terrain received a mid-generation refresh, so naturally not a lot needed to be updated for 2023. Even still, there are a few exciting updates and feature shifts to discuss. The Black Diamond Edition joins the lineup this year and an Eboost electronic power brake assist has been added to the vehicle. The output of the standard 1.5L turbocharged engine was boosted to 175 horsepower and the 19” Gloss Black wheels available on Elevation Edition have been restyled. Finally, the premium color options Sterling Metallic, Volcanic Red Tintcoat and Deep Bronze Metallic have been added.
This year there are four different trim levels to choose from, including SLE, SLT, AT4 and Denali. An all-wheel drive system is available on SLE and SLT trim levels but standard in the other two. Elevation Edition is available on SLE and SLT models while the aforementioned Black Diamond Edition is only available on Denali. As mentioned, the 1.5L turbocharged engine is capable of generating 175 hp, and it’s tethered to a nine-speed automatic transmission. Fuel efficiency data has yet to be revealed, but one specification we can give us is that the Terrain offers a maximum of 63.3 cubic feet of cargo space with the seats folded.
In the 2023 GMC Terrain, GMC Pro Safety comes standard. This suite of advanced driver-assistive safety features includes Automatic Emergency Braking, Forward Collision Alert, Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning, Following Distance Indicator, Front Pedestrian Braking and IntelliBeam automatic high beams. The Denali trim level upgrades to GMC Pro Safety Plus, which adds Lane Change Alert with Side Blind Zone Alert, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Rear Park Assist, Adaptive Cruise Control and the Safety Alert Seat. All of these features help to mitigate the risk of collisions and aid in other aspects to increase safety on the road.
